SOLID WASTE / COMPOST FACILITY HOURS: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Public Works Department operates through several divisions:
- water and sewer
- solid waste collection and disposal
- parks and recreation
- streets and road maintenance
- buildings and property maintenance
The department head of the Public Works Department is the Public Works Director.
The Public Works Department is responsible for:
- Maintenance and operation of all municipal public works, including street, water, and sewer systems
- Maintenance of parks and recreation facilities such as Seven Pastures, Centennial Park, Mollie Walsh Park and the SeaWalk parks
- Maintenance of the municipal trail systems such as Yakutania Point Trail and Lower and Upper Dewey Lake Trails
- Maintenance of public cemeteries
- Maintenance of all municipal buildings, kiosks and pergolas except for the Skagway School
